The increase in concerts and shows in open spaces has heightened awareness about noise pollution in nearby residential areas.

Spanish Law 37/2003 and RD 1367/2007 establish the acoustic quality standards that must be met. A prior environmental acoustic impact study indicates which location, setup and levels are most appropriate to avoid nuisance and sanctions from authorities. The steps to achieve these objectives are:

Modelling with EASE

Using EASE software, sound sources are modelled with directivity and coverage adjusted in the audience area to obtain the most accurate assessment of the levels to be applied.

This study allows us to adjust levels and coverage to achieve the lowest noise emission in nearby dwellings.

Using the approved CadnaA software, the environmental impact study is carried out in nearby residential areas to comply with applicable noise regulations.

Is an acoustic impact study mandatory for a concert?

It depends on local regulations. In many cities, the council requires an environmental impact study as a prerequisite for granting the event activity licence. In any case, having one is the best way to prevent sanctions.

What software is used for the studies?

We use EASE (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) for electroacoustic modelling of sound sources, and CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement) for environmental impact studies in residential areas. Both are industry-standard approved software.

How far in advance should the study be requested?

We recommend a minimum of 2-4 weeks before the event to carry out the electroacoustic study, the environmental study and prepare the complete documentation for the authorities.

What happens if limits are exceeded during the event?

Our measurement system detects any exceedance in real time. The monitoring staff can instruct the sound engineer on the necessary correction. Additionally, the installed limiters prevent levels from exceeding the established thresholds.

Can the technical report be used to appeal sanctions?

Yes. The report includes all time-stamped measurement data, the configurations used, acoustic dispersion maps and compliance documentation. It is a valid technical document for submission as evidence in administrative appeals.

Can measurement alone be hired without the prior study?

Yes. We offer each service independently: electroacoustic study, environmental study, event measurement and monitoring, limiter installation and report preparation. You can contract only what you need.
