When is an acoustic impact study mandatory?

It is mandatory when municipal or regional regulations require it as a prerequisite for an activity licence. Industrial activities, leisure venues and outdoor events typically require one. In any case, it is advisable to prevent fines and neighbourhood complaints.

What software is used for the calculations?

We use CadnaA (Computer Aided Noise Abatement), an internationally recognised software for the calculation of outdoor acoustic propagation. It allows 3D modelling of the environment including topography, buildings, barriers and meteorological conditions.

What regulations apply in Spain?

The reference legislation is Law 37/2003 on Noise and its implementing regulation RD 1367/2007. In addition, each autonomous community and municipality may have its own ordinances with more restrictive immission limits.

How long does a study take?

It depends on the complexity of the project. A typical study for an industrial activity can be completed in 1-2 weeks. For more complex projects with multiple sources or extensive areas, a timeframe of 3-4 weeks may be required.

Does the study include proposals for solutions?

Yes. If predicted immission levels exceed regulatory limits, the study includes specific mitigation proposals (source reduction, acoustic barriers, enclosures) with verification of their effectiveness through re-calculation.

Is the report valid for appealing fines?
